Powertrains and Vehicle Research Centre (PVRC)
The Department of Mechanical Engineering requires a highly skilled, adaptable and self- motivated Toolmaker / Skilled Machinist / Fitter to provide technical support to the Powertrains and Vehicle Research Centre’s laboratories and workshops.
The successful applicant should have experience in conventional machining disciplines together with fitting and assembly skills. Knowledge of welding, brazing, sheet metal and fabrication skills would be an advantage. The role is based in our PVRC automotive workshops and laboratories and involves the installation and modification of modular rigs housing a variety of research engines and transmissions in the PVRC’s various test cells and facilities. The emphasis of the post is on practical mechanical skills as opposed to engine maintenance and diagnostics.
Applicants should have ideally served a recognised toolroom / mechanical engineering apprenticeship, possess a minimum of a City and Guilds qualification or equivalent and have substantial experience of working in an engineering machine shop or toolroom environment using conventional machine tools and associated equipment.
The post is offered on a fixed term contract until September 2020 at a commencing salary of £26,243 per annum rising to £32,236 per annum through annual increments.
